There are some secrets to buying diamond jewelry. Here are just a few:

*Don’t fall for a jazzy ring. Remember that the jewelry is the chassis, and the diamond is the engine, unless of course, it’s signed by someone very special, like Harry Winston (the fine designer down the street may do nice work, but his settings just sell for melt most of the time).

* “Cut” and “Shape” are not the same thing.

*Don’t fall for a private label cut. You pay a premium going in, and often get slapped with a discount if you ever decide to sell or trade.
